Audi announced a new racing series and this time it doesn’t involve the R8. Instead, the automaker is turning to the new TT to debut its Audi Sport TT Cup racing series, which is slated to launch in Germany next year.

Audi Launching new Sport TT Cup One-Make Racing Series

The one-make racing series will serve as a support race at DTM events, and is expected to field a total of 24 cars prepped by Quattro GmbH. Audi says the TT cup race car is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 making 306 hp, which is the same output as the road-going Audi TTS. A “push-to-pass” function, however, will provide a short power boost of 30 hp, while the six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox should provide immediate gear shifts. The TT cup race car tips the scale at a relatively light 2480 pounds and is fitted with an active differential, among other mods to make the TT race-ready.

For budding racers, the Audi TT Cup series could open doors into Audi’s extensive motorsports world, including its GT3, DTM, or LMP programs. Six cars will be reserved for guest drivers, but drivers can apply for the other 18 spots at www.audi-motorsports.com. Former Audi DTM driver Markus Winkelhock has been selected to coach racers in the TT Cup series.
