Base 2016 Sierras with 7-inch screens will be compatible with Android Auto in addition to Apple CarPlay at the beginning of the model year. Canyons, Yukons, and other Sierras with 8-inch screens will offer only Apple CarPlay at launch, tacking on Android Auto capability at a later date. The late launch for Android Auto also applies to the Buick LaCrosse and Regal.

Through Apple CarPlay, drivers can access their favorite smartphone apps right from the car's infotainment screen. The interface is laid out in a similar way to the iPhone, making it easier for drivers to find exactly what they need. Drivers can make calls, receive messages, and listen to music by touch via the touchscreen or by voice thanks to Siri. Android Auto allows drivers to interact with Google Maps and Google Now as well as other apps including WhatsApp, Skype, Google Play Music, and Spotify. Complementing the smartphone integration systems, all 2016 Buick and GMC models offer OnStar 4G LTE connectivity with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot.

GM also recently announced that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability would arrive on the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze, which officially debuts tomorrow, as well as a number of other Chevrolet vehicles. Meanwhile, the systems are also being rolled out through the 2016 Cadillac lineup, which features updated CUE infotainment technologies.
