C7 Corvette Styling to Influence Mainstream Chevy Models

The current Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will influence the styling of the brand’s next generation of mainstream automobiles, according to a new report. General Motors’ global design chief Ed Welburn told Automotive News that the flagship sports car’s taut hood and hexagonal taillights will make their way to other models.

"As Malibu and Cruze and Volt come to market, you'll be able to see a subtle link between some of the form vocabulary for all of them and Corvette," Welburn told Automotive News. "I always look at the hood of the Corvette and the sectioning, the way it's taut, very lean, very sporty. That will be a part of really everything we do for Chevrolet." 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe© Provided by MotorTrend 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe

Despite polarizing opinions regarding the C7 Corvette ’s taillights among Corvette purists, Welburn thinks they will be received on other models “in a very positive way.” The automaker intends to tie its mainstream vehicles to the Camaro and Corvette; something the automaker admits it hasn’t done in the past.
