Chrysler Group has appointed Reid Bigland to lead the Alfa Romeo brand in North America, while Robert Hegbloom will take over as head of Ram. Both appointments take effect immediately.

Along with his new role, Bigland will continue to serve as head of U.S. sales and president and CEO of Chrysler Canada. Prior to this job, Bigland led the Ram brand as it experienced a huge jump in sales. He has also been in charge of the Dodge brand during his career with Chrysler.

Bigland will play a major role in Alfa Romeo's ambitious plans for expansion in the coming years. Between 2015 and 2018, Alfa Romeo will introduce eight new models, including two compacts, two midsize cars, one full-size car, two utility vehicles, and one specialty model. Four years from now, the company aims to produce over 400,000 cars around the world.

According to Chrysler, Bigland has been working closely with Hegbloom, who was previously the director of Ram, to help the Ram brand separate itself from Dodge. Hegbloom will also join the company's leadership team for North America.

"Both Reid and Bob have grown tremendously as leaders in the last five years, and the time has come for them to have expanded leadership roles,” Chrysler said in a statement issued today. Bigland started off at Chrysler's Canadian operations in 2006, while Hegbloom has been with Chrysler since 1986.
