Chrysler posts 14 percent increase in sales for January

Chrysler reported very positive numbers on the total sales from January 2015, with the best reported sales in January since 2007. Some standout winners this month helped to move total sales growth up to a 14 percent increase overall.

Bursting out of the gate, sales of the Dodge Challenger are up a whopping 87 percent, with 4,592 sold, compared to January 2014’s 2,458 sold. This may be contributed to the combination of a recent redesign, and the introduction of the high-performance SRT Hellcat Challenger model. The Challenger’s four-door sibling got a sales bump as well, with the Dodge Charger seeing a 35 percent bump year-over-year.

Sales of the smaller Dodge Dart shot up 61 percent, likely attributed to the discontinuation of the Dodge Avenger. Chrysler’s 200 saw an admirable 30 percent year-over-year increase, with 14,157 units moved.

Jeep saw the best January ever, thanks in part to the new Cherokee model, with a 44 percent increase year-over-year, with 15,154 units sold. The Patriot and the Wrangler saw an increase in year-over-year sales as well, with the Patriot climbing 36% with 7,563 units, and the Wrangler posting 22% increase, moving 11,683 units. Overall, Jeep saw a total year-over-year increase of 23%.

Ram pickup models continued their upward climb, with the best January sales since 1999. Ram saw an overall sales increase of 14 percent, continuing its 57 consecutive months streak of year-over-year sales gains.

Jeep may have had a record January, but other Chrysler SUVs and minivans took a real hit. The Chrysler Town & Country is down by 14%, with its Dodge twin suffering a 36 percent loss in year-over-year sales.
