While GM and Ford posted their financial results for the third quarter last month, Chrysler just posted its numbers, with the automaker's net income of $611 million reflecting a 32-percent increase compared to the same time period a year ago.

Chrysler posted net revenues of $20.7 billion, which represents an 18-percent increase from a year ago. The increase in third-quarter year-over-year revenues was driven by an upswing in vehicle shipments, the automaker says. Worldwide shipments are up 18 percent to 700,000 units, particularly driven by the all-new Jeep Cherokee and all-new 2015 Chrysler 200. Modified operating profit increased 10 percent from last year to $946 million, while a positive free cash flow of $412 million helped increase cash on hand at $13.6 billion. 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk© Provided by MotorTrend 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk

Worldwide vehicle sales were 711,000 for the third quarter, up 18 percent from the same period last year. This was helped in large part by a 20-percent increase in the company’s U.S. retail sales. U.S. market share increased to 12.3 percent, up 11.2 percent from a year ago. Canada's market share also went up to 14.9 percent, up from 14.3 percent during the same period last year. As for vehicle sales outside of North America, they increased 11 percent to 91,000, including 12,000 vehicles manufactured by Chrysler Group and sold as Fiat and Lancia models.
