Ecto-1 From New "Ghostbusters" Movie is a 1980s Cadillac Hearse

It's hard to imagine anything topping the original Ecto-1 from 1984's "Ghostbusters," but the reboot film of the same name is attempting to do just that. That film's director, Paul Feig, tweeted a picture of the new Ecto-1 recently. So far, the original is still the ghost-busting vehicle to beat.

"Ghostbusters" is slated for release in summer 2016. Because it's a reboot rather than a sequel, the story starts from scratch with an entirely new cast and a modern-day setting. So instead of scoring a 1959 Cadillac ambulance, the cast of the 2016 film apparently chooses a 1980s Cadillac hearse. This makes some sense, as the Caddy in the original film was considered a clunker when it was purchased, which is exactly what an old hearse from the '80s would be today. Still, there's no arguing that the '59 has loads more curb appeal -- even without all the spook-catching gear.

The reboot film stirred controversy when it was announced earlier this year, primarily due to its all-female Ghostbuster cast. The movie will star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon, with Chris Hemsworth and Andy Garcia co-starring. Little else is known about the film's plot, but we know it will be a true reboot with an all-new origin story. Here's hoping the Ecto-1's backstory makes up for how dumpy it looks.
