There’s hope if you missed your chance to snag a 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat or Challenger SRT Hellcat. Due to the high demand of the Hellcat duo, FiatChrysler Automobiles is planning to increase its output of Hellcat engines for model year 2016.

The announcement comes from Dodge and SRT boss Tim Kuniskis, who recently spoke to Automotive News. He didn’t specify how many more Hellcat engines FCA plans to build for 2016, though the report states that the company has already produced 4,000 units this year. FCA initially set an annual sales target of 5,000 units, but demand has far surpassed that. In fact, the automaker suspended orders for the 707-hp, 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 earlier this year in an attempt to clear its backlog. FCA has increased production of Hellcat engines twice since the Challenger SRT Hellcat went on sale last September.

That said, the Hellcat’s presence appears to have a halo effect on the Challenger and Charger lineup.

"We've sold 88,000 muscle cars [this calendar year], Challengers and Chargers, and 4,000 of those have been Hellcats, Kuniskis told AN. “It's a small sliver of what we sell, but it really creates a halo for the rest of the lineup. For example, the next highest car, the Scat Pack Challenger, I have essentially a zero-day supply. It's sold out."

As previously reported, demand for performance cars is on the uptick. Not only are high-powered muscle cars flying off the lots, but hot hatches like the Ford Fiesta ST have been a success.
