Last week, Ford discovered an issue with door latches on certain 2012- 2014 Ford Fiesta subcompacts and 2013- 2014 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans. The recall included a total of 336,873 vehicles in the U.S., but now the automaker has expanded the recall to include 156,000 more vehicles, increasing the grand total to 545,906 in North America.

The automaker warned that a "broken pawl spring tab" can prevent a door from latching, and even if the door does manage to close, it could fly open again while driving. Ford says that three incidents related to the problem have been reported so far. Two drivers were injured while attempting to close unlatched doors, while another driver reported the unsecured door flew up and struck a neighboring car while they were trying to park.
