Winner: Ford Explorer, 17,027 units sold, 32 percent increase

The Ford Explorer saw a dramatic sales spike, with total sales reaching 17,027 units in February. This is a 32-percent increase in year-over-year sales, and it results in the best February sales for the Ford Explorer in the past nine years. Sales should only improve with the recent debut of a refreshed Explorer for the 2016 model year, set to hit dealer showrooms later this year.

Winner: Ford Mustang, 8,454 units sold, 32 percent increase

The Ford Mustang lineup saw a boost in year-over-year sales, jumping from 6,410 units sold in February 2014 to 8,454 units sold last month, resulting in the best February sales month in seven years. While this is a sizeable year-over-year increase, it is not as impressive as January’s sales boost, which saw a 124-percent year-over-year increase. As more consumers see the all-new, redesigned Mustang on the streets, sales will likely continue to rise. Most important of all for the Blue Oval, the Mustang easily trumped the Chevrolet Camaro's 6373 units sold.

Losers: Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, 41 percent and 44.4 percent decrease, respectively

The Ford Edge and the Lincoln MKX continue their downward sales slide for another month. In February, the Ford Edge sold 6,526 units, down from 10,965 in February 2014. The Lincoln MKX followed suit, with 1,135 units sold last month, compared to 2,041 last year. These stagnant sales may be coming to an end, as the completely redesigned Edge hits dealer lots in spring, with the redesigned Lincoln MKX to follow soon after.

Loser: Ford Taurus, 2,685 units sold, 25.1 percent decrease

The aging Taurus saw another month of decline, with 2,685 units sold in February 2015, down from 3,587 in February 2014. These sales are most likely due to the fact that the Ford Taurus is an older vehicle; it's due for an upgrade for the 2016 model year.

Loser: Ford Fiesta, 3,708 units sold, 24 percent decrease

Ford’s smallest car sees a 24 percent sales slide, with 3,708 units sold in February 2015, down from last year’s 4,844 units sold in February. The struggle mirrors General Motor's difficulties in the small-car segment; Chevrolet saw Spark and Sonic sales tumble last month.
