The Euro-market Volkswagen Golf GTD will soon have a turbodiesel hot hatch competitor when the recently confirmed turbodiesel Ford Focus ST goes on sale. News of the oil-burning Blue Oval was confirmed by Ford chief operating officer Mark Fields at Geneva, Auto Express reports.

While the Golf GTD is powered by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel I-4 with 181 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, the Focus ST will get a 182-hp 2.0-liter turbodiesel I-4. Ford claims the turbodiesel Focus ST will reach 62 mph in 8.0 seconds, or 0.5 seconds slower than Volkswagen’s estimate for the Golf GTD. The diesel variant will use feature the gas-powered Focus ST’s suspension and steering tuning. Although Volkswagen is considering bringing the 2015 Golf GTD to the U.S., the chances of the Focus ST diesel coming to the U.S. are much lower. © Provided by MotorTrend

The refreshed 2015 Focus was also shown at the 2014 Geneva auto show. The compact sedan and hatchback gains the brand’s corporate grille tying its front end styling closer to the midsize Fusion and subcompact Fiesta. With the update, the Focus gains more driver assist and active safety features including Perpendicular Parking Assist, Cross Traffic Alert, and more.
