Ford has just made it easier to unlock more power in some of its EcoBoost-powered performance cars. Available now through Ford Racing is Ford’s ProCal tool, which allows owners to calibrate the engine control unit at the touch of a few buttons.

ProCal was previously only offered as a part of various performance upgrade packages for a number of vehicles, including the last-generation Mustang and F-150. Now, Ford Racing is offering the ProCal programming handset as a stand-alone upgrade for $595. Ford says it has calibrations programmed for the Focus ST and Fiesta ST, and is currently working on programing for the 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost 2.3. That new calibration should be ready by late next year. In stock form, the Mustang EB makes 310 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque and runs to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds.

For the Focus ST, the automaker claims ECU tweaks result in up to 90 lb-ft more torque than stock (252 hp and 270 lb-ft).

Also important to consider is that ProCal doesn’t result in warranty penalties. According to the Ford Racing Performance Parts catalog, the Ford Racing Limited Warranty works in conjunction with the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, as long as installation is performed by the dealer. That should definitely provide some peace of mind for any budding enthusiast who’s curious to safely explore the limits of their EcoBoost engine.
