Ford Recalls 213,000 Explorer SUVs for Door Handle Issue

Ford is recalling 221,108 SUVs and trucks for various issues. Approximately 213,000 Ford Explorer and Ford Police Interceptor Utility models are being recalled for a door handle issue, while nearly 6500 F-Series Super Duty Ambulances are being recalled for an exhaust temperature sensors, and 1725 Lincoln MKT limo and hearse models are being recalled for a vacuum pump issue.

2011-2013 Ford Explorer, Ford Police Interceptor Utility
The Problem: Ford is recalling certain 2011- 2013 Ford Explorer and Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles for an issue with the interior door handle. If the spring that controls the handle becomes unseated, the door may unlatch during a side impact crash, which could increase the risk of injury. Ford is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue.

The Fix: Owners can bring potentially affected vehicles to the dealer to have all four interior door handle assemblies inspected and repaired or replaced as needed.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 212,911 2011-2013 Ford Explorer and Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles built at the automaker’s Chicago Assembly Plant from February 1, 2011 through January 31, 2012; June 1, 2012 to June 30, 2012; and October 1, 2012 to November 30, 2012 are affected by this recall. The recalled vehicles are located in North America including the U.S. (194,484), Canada (12,392), and Mexico (6035).

2011-2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty Ambulance and Emergency Vehicles
The Problem: Ford is recalling certain 2011-2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty ambulance vehicles and 2014-2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty ambulance and emergency vehicles with the 6.7-liter Powerstroke turbodiesel V-8 for an issue with the exhaust gas temperature sensor. A possible malfunction with the sensor could prevent the gauge from displaying a high temperature condition. Ford is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue.

The Fix: Owners can bring potentially affected vehicles to the dealer for a software update.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 6472 model-year 2011-2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty ambulance vehicles and 2014-2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty ambulance and emergency vehicles built at Kentucky Truck Plant from February 22, 2010 to February 1, 2015 are included in this campaign. The vehicles are located in the U.S. (6322), Canada (96), and Mexico (54).

2013-2015 Lincoln MKT Limo, Lincoln MKT Hearse
The Problem: Ford is recalling certain 2013- 2015 Lincoln MKT limo and hearse vehicles for an issue with a vacuum pump relay, which could result in an underhood fire. While the automaker is aware of two fires related to the issue, no accidents or injuries have been reported.

The Fix: Owners can bring potentially affected vehicles to the dealer to have the vacuum pump relay and wiring replaced.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: This recall affects 1725 model-year 2013-2015 Lincoln MKT limo and hearse vehicles built at Oakville Assembly from March 6, 2012 to March 4, 2015. Affected vehicles are located in the U.S. (1586) and Canada (139).
