Ford Registers EcoBeast Name With U.S. Trademark Office

A filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office discovered by Motrolix reveals that Ford has registered the name EcoBeast. Other than stating that the name would apply to automobiles and automobile engines, the filing doesn't give many hints as to what exactly the moniker might be used for. One possibility, however, is the next-gen F-150 SVT Raptor, which we've heard could get an EcoBoost engine.

While we don't know any concrete details about the next-gen Raptor, we've seen a test mule for the extreme off-road pickup before. Last summer, we spied a Raptor prototype and noted that the photographer didn't hear the rumbly V-8 sound we're used to. This led us to believe the next-gen truck could utilize a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, especially since that engine was said to be tested in the outgoing Raptor back when it first debuted. Despite customer demand, a production model never came of it, but that could all change with the next-gen Raptor. Although the trademarked name does fuel speculation on a high-performance EcoBoost-powered Ford vehicle of some kind, it's important to note that trademark registrations don't always lead to new products. Ford F 150 SVT Raptor prototype© Provided by MotorTrend Ford F 150 SVT Raptor prototype

Until Ford decides to spill some details, the EcoBeast will remain a mystery for now. What do you think the Blue Oval might have in store for the new name?
