To kick off production of the new Shelby GT350R Mustang, Ford will be auctioning off the first production model with all proceeds going to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Lately, it seems like the first production models of new Chevrolet and Ford vehicles are being auctioned off to support various charities. Last month, Ford announced that it will auction off the first Shelby GT350 Mustang , also in support of JDRF. In the same vein, Chevrolet auctioned off the first 2015 Corvette Z06 and 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 with all proceeds going to support the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Michigan.

"JDRF is privileged to work with Ford, and we are extremely grateful for the generous support from Ford and its employees through the years," said John Brady, JDRF chairman, international board of directors, in a recent press release.

The new Shelby GT350R will be auctioned through Barrett-Jackson this weekend, and the winner will have the option to customize it with any available colors and packages. The new model has been designed with the original spirit from the 1965 GT350 Competition model developed jointly by Carroll Shelby. It will offer incredible track performance thanks to better aerodynamics, chassis engineering, and the use of lightweight materials, including carbon fiber wheels.

To commemorate the event, Ford team members that were involved in the development of the Shelby GT350R will sign the car in appreciation of the donations. To watch the event live, tune in to Velocity channel this Saturday, January 17.
