Goodbye, TUDOR Series: IMSA Names WeatherTech as New Title Sponsor

The TUDOR United SportsCar Series is no more. The IMSA-sanctioned endurance racing championship that merged Grand-Am with the American Le Mans Series in 2014 has lost the TUDOR watch brand as its title sponsor. Taking its place will be floormat company WeatherTech.

The series will be known as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship beginning with the 2016 season, which has 12 races on the calendar. TUDOR is not out of the picture completely, however. TUDOR and its parent company Rolex announced a 10-year extension of its current partnerships with the series. All 12 venues on the 2016 calendar previously hosted the series in 2015. IMSA says the series' headline events will continue to be the Rolex 24 at Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, Six Hours of the Glen, and Petit Le Mans. Together, those four races make up the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup. MotorTrend Image© Provided by MotorTrend MotorTrend Image

IMSA also announced the series would include more classes at more races. Previously, at some venues like Long Beach and Mosport, not all of the four GT and prototype classes would race. Teams will begin practicing this November ahead of the season-opener on January 30-31, 2016, at Daytona.
