German motorsport regulators have lifted a ban on GT3 cars along the Nürburgring Nordschleife almost two weeks after a Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 Crash at Ring, One Spectator Dead" target="_blank">crash killed one spectator.

This week, Germany's DMSB met with professional and amateur drivers to come up with new rules to ensure safer driving on one of the most difficult racing circuits known to man. Cars from the top classes will be required to undergo a 5-percent reduction in engine power, a rule that is effective immediately.

Meanwhile, speed limits have been put in place at key locations along the route. Drivers coming up on the Flugplatz, Schwedenkreuz, and Antoniusbuche will have to reduce speeds to 124 mph, while a speed limit of 155 mph will be set along the Dottinger Hohe straight. Those who fail to abide by the speed limits, enforced by GPS, will risk heavy fines.

On March 28, a NissanGT-R Nismo GT3 caught air on the Nürburgring and flipped over the fence to the spectator section, killing one and injuring others. The racer was able to exit the vehicle on his own accord. Although scheduled events on the track will resume normally, spectator zones have been temporarily limited until reconstruction work can be completed.

Now that the ban has lifted, cars from the SP7, SP8, SP8T, SP9, SP-Pro, SP-X, Cup-2, H4 GT, E1-XP1, E1-SP1, and E1-XP Hybrid classes will also now be able to compete on the Nordschleife. But things could change again, as DMSB says that experts are searching for temporary solutions until they can implement final safety rules after the season is over.
