It’s been a few years since Hyundai first dropped hints about its upcoming “N” sub-brand, a new line of high-performance vehicles expected to showcase the Korean automaker’s sportier side. With the Frankfurt auto show just a few weeks away, Hyundai says it’ll use the venue to show off new N-branded concepts.

Hyundai’s decision to show off its N brand at the German show isn’t surprising considering that much of its high-performance development takes place in the country. For starters, Hyundai has a test center at the Nürburgring, and its Motorsports division is headquartered in Alzenau, Germany. Hyundai Motorsports and its World Rally Championship team are the catalysts for the N brand.

It’ll join the long list of other Vision vehicles from other automakers including the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo and the Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision GT.

Additionally, Hyundai says it’ll debut a preview of the next i20 WRC car, expected to be ready for the 2016 racing season. The current i20 WRC car made its WRC racing debut in 2014.

Hyundai will also use the Frankfurt show to once again show off its RM15 Concept RR, which is essentially a heavily-modified Veloster that the automaker unveiled earlier this year. RM stands for “race midsize” and refers to the concept mid-engine layout. Power comes from a 296-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4. MotorTrend Image© Provided by MotorTrend MotorTrend Image

Hyundai states that RM15 concept is “undergoing further developments to apply high-performance technology” to its vehicles. Could Hyundai be working up a mid-engine vehicle? Or could the automaker be referring to the concept’s simpler technologies like its carbon-reinforced plastics and aero kit? It’s all speculation at this point, though a lightweight, mid-engine sports car would certainly be an impressive halo car for Hyundai’s N brand.
