Infiniti Q30 Hatchback Revealed Ahead of Frankfurt Auto Show Debut

Infiniti has pulled the camouflage off its new Q30 compact luxury hatchback, which will debut publicly in September at the 2015 Frankfurt auto show. As an earlier teaser photo had suggested, the production Infiniti Q30 will stay remarkably close to the dramatic, swoopy styling of the 2013 concept version (shown in the gallery above).

Out front, Infiniti's signature large grille is topped by a chrome strip that angles up toward the swept-back headlights. A strong character line develops above the car's front fenders and runs along the sides of the car, with a second swage line along the lower edges of the doors. The low roofline produces a short, chopped greenhouse with small windows; the C pillar has Infiniti's popular reverse-kink design.

The Infiniti Q30 is based on the same platform as the Mercedes-Benz CLA250 and GLA250 compact luxury cars, and it will compete in the same segment as those models, as well as against vehicles like the Audi A3 and Acura ILX. In the U.S. market, expect the Infiniti Q30 to use Mercedes' 2.0-liter turbo-four gas engine, with both front- and all-wheel drive offered.

Infiniti has yet to confirm any details for the new car, including its dimensions, weight, or equipment levels. But it's safe to expect a long list of luxury touches encompassing features like heated and cooled seats and Infiniti's 360-degree AroundView camera, as well as active safety features like blind-spot monitoring, forward collision prevention, and the steering-assist function available on the Infiniti Q50 sedan.

After it makes its official debut in Frankfurt, the Infiniti Q30 will go into production at a Nissan plant in Sunderland, U.K. The car goes on sale in Europe by the end of this year and should reach our shores by early 2016.
