In preparation for the upcoming land speed record run by the Bloodhound SSC rocket car, Jaguar has prepared a special Jaguar F-Type to serve as the rapid-response vehicle in case of emergency.

The Bloodhound SSC land speed record vehicle is aimed squarely at breaching the 1,000 mph mark, smashing the previous land speed record by 287 mph. The Bloodhound SSC is the successor to the previous record holder, the Thrust SSC which set a 763 mph record over the course of one mile back in 1997. Unlike the Thrust SSC, the new Bloodhound is propelled by a combination of a jet turbine engine, alongside a primary hybrid rocket engine, providing a combined total of more than 135,000 hp. Jaguar has supplied the Bloodhound project with a 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 for powering the auxiliary power and driving the oxidizer pump for the rocket engine.

The F-Type R AWD has already contributed to the project through communication device testing, by matching the speed on the ground of an airborne jet, ensuring the communication equipment was capable of functioning under high speeds. The F-Type serving as the response vehicle is powered by the standard 550 hp, supercharged 5.0-liter V-8, helping the F-Type rocket to 60 in just 3.9 seconds, on its way to the top speed of 186 mph.

The Bloodhound SSC begins initial low-speed testing in the near future, with a full-speed run happening later this year. Jaguar will debut the new F-Type R AWD Bloodhound SSC RRV at the Coventry MotorFest on May 30.
