With the next generation of Kia Optima on its way, Kia gears up for the launch with a teaser of an upcoming concept sedan, set to debut at the 2015 Geneva auto show.

Research

We have previously seen the 2016 Kia Optima testing in the desert, and this concept could be first glimpse at features we may see on the production version. The visible portion of the Kia concept shows a more substantial, heavily styled front end compared to the current generation of Optima, which has been on sale since 2011. The trademark Kia “tiger-nose” grille design remains, with the rest of the front fascia reworked and restyled for a wider, more aggressive look. The concept’s wheels are a design departure from Kia as well, with a turbine-style interior spoke pattern.

Kia touts this concept as a “spacious and versatile accessory to an active lifestyle,” perhaps giving credence to the swirling rumors regarding the addition of a wagon or hatchback variant to the Kia Optima lineup. The rear of the concept is obscured by the wall featured in the teaser, but the high roofline, sloping upwards toward the rear, speaks to some interesting rear styling.

2015 is shaping up to be a busy year for Kia. This concept preview is hot on the heels of the sneak peek of the upcoming Kia Trail’ster concept, an all-terrain variant of the Kia Soul, set to make its debut at the 2015 Chicago auto show. In addition, the next generation of Kia Sportage was spied during cold weather testing, most likely set for a debut later this year.
