Kia Sorento Prototype Caught Cold Weather Testing

Although the Kia Sorento was updated for the 2014 model year, the automaker is already preparing the next version of the three-row crossover. The latest Kia Sorento prototype has been spotted cold weather testing in Sweden.

While the last Kia Sorento prototype we spotted had black and white camouflage, the latest example features all black camo, though it seems to be losing some of its disguise including large sections around the doors. Despite the reduction in camo, the automaker has kept the revised front grille under wraps. MotorTrend Image© Provided by MotorTrend MotorTrend Image

The Sorento prototype was also spotted testing with a Hyundai ix25 prototype and an Audi Q5 SUV. According to our spy photographer, the Sorento prototype looks bigger than the current model on sale. The Sorento was moved to the Hyundai Santa Fe’s new platform for its 2014 refresh.

While we don’t expect the updated Sorento to have the same extreme styling of the Kia Cross GT concept shown earlier this month, we wouldn’t be surprised to see some of the concept’s styling cues show up on the production car.

Currently, the Sorento is offered with a 191-hp 2.4-liter I-4 or a 290-hp 3.3-liter V-6. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission in front- or all-wheel-drive variants. While no details have been revealed about the updated model’s powertrains, the Sorento could get the Santa Fe’s 264-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4.
