Australia's V8 Supercars series has partnered with Lexus to make the RC F coupe the official safety car for all 15 of its championship events this year.

The series will also bring along a Lexus GS 350 F Sport as the official course car and an IS 350 F Sport as the official medical car. The Lexus models will make their series debut at the Clipsal 500 event in Adelaide starting February 26.

The Lexus RC F packs the most punch of the three cars, featuring a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 engine with 467 hp and 389 lb-ft of torque. It also has a race track-developed suspension and brakes that should help it maintain the pace when out on the track. The GS and IS 350 F Sport models both come with 3.5-liter V-6 engines making 306 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.

Often compared to NASCAR here in the U.S., the V8 Supercars series originally featured modified versions of the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore, but has since expanded to include cars from other manufacturers. Although most events are held in Australia, the series has expanded to other parts of the world including China, the Middle East, and the U.S. By 2017, the races will allow different engine and body configurations in addition to the current V-8 models.
