The McLaren GT model teased last week has been revealed to be the 650S GT3, the track-only replacement for the 12C GT3. The race-ready model debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with the new McLaren familial face, along with a few upgrades over the outgoing customer race car.

The 650S GT3 will utilize the same carbon fiber MonoCell chassis as the road-going model, but will receive a race-tuned suspension and unique aero-optimized bodywork. That bodywork includes a front splitter, larger front air intakes, carbon fiber pieces along the sides surrounding revised intake openings, and of course the large, fixed carbon fiber rear wing. The GT3 is powered by the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 used in the road car, tuned to an FIA-mandated output of around 493 hp -- the same as the previous 12C GT3. A racing-specific ECU incorporates boost and shift control functions, while the engine is backed by a new six-speed sequential transmission.

The braking system was redesigned to include six-piston monoblock front calipers and four-piston rears, with ventilated discs all around. An FIA-approved roll cage comes standard, and was redesigned to be lighter than that of the 12C GT3. The cockpit also features a motorsport digital dash display, McLaren GT-developed racing seat with six-point harness, and a unique steering wheel inspired by McLaren's Formula 1 cars.

Around 15 examples of the 650S GT3 are planned for production, and will be delivered to customer teams for the 2015 season. If existing 12C GT3 teams opt for the upgrade package, that could add 15 more cars to the total. The McLaren 650S GT3 is priced at £330,000 (roughly $562,000 U.S.) plus tax.
