Despite being a relatively new automaker, McLaren Automotive has been profitable for the second year in a row -- and just four years after it started producing regular production street cars. The British sports car maker also announced that two new body styles for the Sports Series will be coming; one in 2016 and another in 2017.

While McLaren didn’t specify what body styles would be coming, one new body style could be the rumored 570S Gran Turismo variant featuring a fastback design with a large rear window. Another possibility is an open-top variant such as a 570S Spider. Although still speculation, it would make sense for McLaren to build different variants of the more powerful 570S that will be sold globally rather than the 540C, which won’t be coming to the U.S.

According to our friends at AUTOMOBILE, the rumored McLaren 570S Gran Turismo is said to offer a more luxurious interior than that found in the driver-focused Sports Series, Super Series, and Ultimate Series cars. With the McLaren 650S Spider being the automaker’s only current open-top model, a 570S Spider would be a more affordable offering from the automaker.

McLaren sold a record 1,649 units in 2014 with an operating profit of £20.8m or about $32.7 million -- an increase of 18 percent in sales and a 68-percent increase in operating profit over 2013. McLaren also saw sales increases in all four of its regional business units including Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and North America. With the new Sports Series, McLaren intends to increase annual production to 4,000 units a year, but no more in order to maintain exclusivity.
