After previewing the P1 GTR at this year's Pebble Beach concours, McLaren is now giving the public a look at the supercar's bare-bones interior. The only feature that breaks with the overall theme of minimalism is a giant steering wheel borrowed from the race-winning MP4-23 Formula 1 car.

Everything that is not essential to the car's overall function was left out. To help reduce weight, carbon fiber is a huge theme on the hypercar. Not only does the composite material make up the car's 200-pound chassis, but it also was used to make the seats. While they may look stark, the seats feature six-point harnesses, complementing the car's roll cage that is mounted to the chassis. The only creature comfort on the interior is air-conditioning. But before you notice any of this, the first thing that jumps out is the car's giant video game controller-like steering wheel. This square-shaped apparatus allows drivers to switch between driving modes without taking their hands off the wheel. DRS and IPAS buttons are included.

The McLaren P1 GTR is currently being tested to see how it performs in extreme situations. Recently, it successfully completed tests in hot-as-hell temperatures at the Bahrain International Circuit. This was the first time that the 986-hp car was seen in its full glory performing on the track, complete with Carbon Black paintwork and bare carbon fiber bodywork. More tests are scheduled in colder climates in Europe this winter. Mclaren P1 Gtr 04 Front In Motion© Provided by MotorTrend Mclaren P1 Gtr 04 Front In Motion
