On June 27, McLaren will pull the cover off a mysterious “competitive track-focused racer,” alongside a display of current McLaren models at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Information is still scant on this new model, but the teaser image provided by McLaren seems to outline a shape indicative of a new, updated version of the track-only 12C GT Sprint.

Judging by the outlined headlights and side vents, this new track terror will most likely be based on the current McLaren 650S. If that's the case, it will likely carry over all of the drivetrain, design, and chassis upgrades which differentiated the street-going 12C from the 650S. The original 12C GT Sprint was the “softer” version of the hardcore competitive racing-spec 12C GT3. As for that model's replacement, there's no word yet on a 650S-based GT3, but if nothing else, McLaren could update the front and rear styling of the current 12C GT3 to match the rest of the McLaren line next season.

In addition to the unveiling of the new model, visitors to the McLaren booth can check out a special 650S worked over by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), making its first appearance at Goodwood. The MSO 650S presented at Goodwood will likely be similar to the MSO 650S Coupe Concept, which debuted in China earlier this year.
