Although we haven't seen many Black Series models come our way in a while, Mercedes says the name is not dead. AMG boss Tobias Moers says the Black Series moniker will return eventually on a future model, and separately, also hinted at a possible hybrid supercar for the AMG label.

Research

Speaking with Autocar, Moers said that the new Black Series will take its place as a range-topping entry on a future model, although he isn't sure which one. We've heard before that the GT is destined to receive a Black Series variant in the near future. For now, though, Moers hints there's no rush, considering the brand's "base cars are so good" already.

Whether or not the GT ends up getting a Black Series model soon, Moers says that the GT range will be expanded in the future. The first new GT model is likely to be slotted against the track-oriented Porsche 911 GT3. Also in the works are future AMG Sport variants including a new C450 AMG Sport. A direct successor to the SLS, however, is not on the docket.

The automaker is also researching hybrid technology for future performance models. As we reported before, it looks like Moers has changed his mind on this matter, and it's now possible we will see a Porsche 918-fighter from the automaker in the not-so-distant future.
