Wiith U.S. sales up 52.1 percent through November with 10,181 vehicles sold, Mercedes-Benz's AMG cars are a hot commodity. Hoping to continue riding the cachet tide of the AMG brand, Mercedes-Benz confirmed it will introduce its rumored AMG Sport trim level at the 2015 Detroit auto show. According to Auto Express, and as evidenced by the above Mercedes teaser photo, the new performance trim level is said to arrive on the Mercedes-Benz C450 and GLE450 Coupe.

Both the Mercedes-Benz C450 and GLE450 Coupe AMG Sport will use a twin-turbo V-6 engine. Behind the grille is almost certainly a tuned-up version of the 329-hp,twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 seen in the new C400 4Matic. For the Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG Sport, that could mean somewhere between 345 hp or 380 hp, which is still well behind the 469-hp Mercedes-AMG C63 and the 503-hp C63 S. The current ML63 and its 518 hp or 550 hp with the optional performance pack, should still come out well ahead of the GLE450 AMG Sport's possible out of 395 to 425 hp.

The new AMG Sport trim effectively allows Mercedes-Benz to compete with Audi’s S-Line and BMW’s M Performance, both not-quite versions of the fully-realized Audi RS and BMW M models. The Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG Sport will still come with 4Matic all-wheel drive (as will the GLE Coupe AMG Sport), whereas the all-out Mercedes-AMG C63 retains the rear-wheel-drive dynamics favored by high-performance enthusiasts.

We’ll know more in the days leading up to the 2015 Detroit auto show, so stay tuned for more updates on the seemingly ever-growing Mercedes-Benz stable.
