Here’s your best look yet at the Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe before it’s unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. This prototype is sporting a gorgeous deep red metallic paint job that does a better job of exposing the coupe’s lines compared to the previously spied test car painted in black.

Research

Depending on the angle, the C-Class coupe shows hints of the S-Class coupe and even the Mercedes-AMG GT S. As previously reported, Mercedes lowered the roofline by 1.6 inches to give the coupe a sportier look compared to its predecessor. In doing that, however, the rear seats had to move up a tad resulting in less head- and legroom. Trunk space has also been reduced.

In this case, the prototype could be a C450 AMG 4Matic powered by a tweaked version of the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6. This engine is tuned to make 362 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox in the C450 AMG 4Matic sedan.

Other powertrain choices will mimic the sedan. The base C300 coupe, for example, will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while the C400 coupe will get a detuned version of the C450 AMG 4Matic’s engine. The Mercedes-AMG C63 coupe will either make 469 hp or 503 hp if you spring for the S model.

In addition to its sharper styling, the two-door C is also expected to perform a tad better than its four-door sibling thanks to revised steering and suspension bits. Production of the C coupe is expected to begin later this year.
