As expected, Benz’s upcoming crossover coupe will get the go-fast treatment from the folks at Affalterbach. A spy photographer has caught what will likely be called the Mercedes-Benz MLC63 AMG (or some variation of that name) sporting all the requisite AMG parts.

Research

The tail end reveals the most obvious clues thanks to the quad exhaust tips and what appears to be a spoiler mounted on the lower edge of the hatch. The large five-spoke rims are blacked out, but provide a clear view of the drilled rotors and large brakes. This prototype is also sporting integrated running boards, which could be standard equipment for the new crossover. Like the rest of the vehicle, the front end is heavily camouflaged, but the lower bumper is dominated by large air ducts and Benz’ fancy headlight system. We got our first peek at Benz’s purported BMW X6-fighter in concept form at last month’s Beijing Motor Show. Weeks after the debut of the Mercedes-Benz Concept Coupe SUV, a prototype was caught on the roads, presumably with the automaker’s new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 under the hood. The MLC will ride on the same platform as the ML, though its raked roofline will rob the interior of passenger and cargo space. It may also have more than the X6 to contend with, as Porsche is rumored to make a coupe-like version of its Cayenne SUV.
