Mitsubishi released details on the production version of the Japan-only Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Final Edition. While the 10th-generation Evo has been with us since the 2008 model year, Mitsubishi’s halo car is still quite the performer. This is the Evo's final year of production, marking the departure of Mitsubishi's only performance offering in their model lineup.

Mitsubishi previously showed a concept version of the Evolution Final Edition at the 2014 Tokyo Auto Salon that packed 473 hp under the hood, the production Final Edition will still feature the standard car’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, pushing out 291 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Like in the standard Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR, this engine mates with a five-speed manual transmission in each of the 1,000 final Edition cars that will be sold in Mitsubishi’s home market.

The Final Edition rides on lightweight BBS wheels, and adds Bilstein shocks, Brembo brakes, and Eibach springs. On the inside, the Final Edition features black leather Recaro sport seats, with special red stitching. “Final Edition” badging and a numbered dash plate are also included.

Mitsubishi has been relatively hush-hush about the future of the storied Evolution nameplate, but has confirmed a hybrid or electric drivetrain is being considered for the successor to this iconic model. Talks surrounding a high-performance hybrid SUV also emerged last year, but as of right now, the Evolution nameplate will die with the 2015 model year.
