Honda has been showing its sporty side lately, with a Civic Type R finally announced for the U.S. and the all-new Acura NSX arriving soon with twin-turbo V-6 hybrid power. At the 2015 Frankfurt motor show, Honda will take its sporty kick one step further with a concept that combines its strengths in the automotive sector and its expertise in building motorcycles.

Called "Project 2 & 4," the concept is intended to combine the freedom of a motorcycle with the maneuverability of a car. We're not sure exactly what that means, but Honda does confirm this will be an open-cockpit vehicle. Looking at the teaser image, it also appears to be a very minimalistic one. Similar to barely-there vehicles like the Caterham 7 and Ariel Atom, the Project 2 & 4 features an exposed suspension with wheels covered by floating, motorcycle-like fenders. The vehicle was co-developed by Honda's motorcycle design center in Asaka, Japan and its automobile design center in Wako, Japan. Providing power will be the 1.0-liter V-4 engine from the RC213V racing bike. That engine makes more than 200 hp in MotoGP spec.

In addition to the concept, Honda will also display its global lineup of new and refreshed models, including the HR-V and Honda Jazz (the Fit's Euro counterpart). The automaker will also exhibit the Civic Type R and its UNI-CUB β personal mobility concept in Frankfurt.

We'll have to wait a couple more weeks to see what kind of car-bike hybrid Honda has cooked up, but the idea has us excited.
