Nearly 300,000 Nissan Versa Compacts Recalled

Nissan is recalling nearly 300,000 Versa small cars to replace a center console trim piece that could impede a driver's ability to transfer their foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal.

The Problem: The center console trim panel on certain 2012-2015 Versa sedan and Versa Note hatchback models could catch on the right edge of a driver's shoe, depending on shoe type and foot position. This could cause a slight delay in transitioning from the accelerator to the brake pedal, and could increase the risk of a crash by hampering a driver's ability to react. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) says seven crashes and one minor injury have resulted from the trim panel obstruction.

The Fix: Nissan will notify owners and instruct them to come into a dealer. There, technicians will trim the panel so that the leading edge is farther from the driver's foot. The recall is expected to be carried out by mid-October. Owners can contact Nissan customer service for more information at 1-800-647-7261.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: This recall affects 298,747 vehicles, including 2012-2015 Nissan Versa sedans built between June 9, 2011, and March 11, 2015; and 2014-2015 Nissan Versa Note hatchbacks manufactured from April 23, 2013, to March 11, 2015.
