Still using keys to lock your car? How old fashioned. If you have an Apple Watch, you can now use a new app to lock your Porsche remotely. The Apple smartwatch now has a special application that allows Porsche owners to connect to their car remotely through the Porsche Car Connect functions. The automaker already offers Porsche Car Connect as a smartphone app, but now its functions are even more accessible on your wrist.

With the Porsche Connect app, Apple Watch users can check whether their car's doors or windows are closed, and can lock the car remotely. The "Carfinder" menu helps owners navigate to where they last parked the car, and can remotely honk the horn and flash the lights to pick the car out of a crowded parking lot. Other menus show the car's trip information, such as fuel efficiency and current odometer reading, and can warn the Apple Watch wearer if the Porsche's security alarm is tripped.

For plug-in hybrid Porsche models, the Apple Watch app allows owners to check the current battery range and remaining charging time. There's also a climate-control menu allowing owners to pre-set the car's interior temperature while it charges. Because Porsche Car Connect uses cellphone signals, the car and watch app can communicate no matter how far apart they are.

At the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show, Hyundai demonstrated a similar concept using a Genesis sedan and an Android Wear smartwatch. Like the Porsche Car Connect version, Hyundai's Blue Link watch app allows owners to lock and unlock the car remotely, locate it in a parking lot, and even start the engine remotely.
