Another teaser image of the next-generation Euro Volkswagen Passat has been released. While the first set of images included dramatic sketches of the exterior, computer generated chassis models, and the new 2.0-liter twin-turbodiesel I-4, the latest image shows the upcoming Euro Passat draped under a veil.

Although few details can be made out, the new Euro Volkswagen Passat ’s LED daytime running lights and headlights can be seen through the cover. The production car also appears to be taller than and not quite as wide as the previously released sketches, which showed dramatic proportions.

Official images and full specs of the Euro Volkswagen Passat will be revealed next month before the car debuts at the 2014 Paris auto show in October. Volkswagen, however, has released some technical details of the upcoming Euro Passat. With the use of high-strength and hot-formed steel, and aluminum, the new car is said to be about 187 pounds lighter than the outgoing model. External dimensions are also smaller, though interior and cargo space is supposed to grow.

The new 2.0-liter twin-turbodiesel I-4 is rated 237 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque and sill be mated exclusively to a new seven-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission and Volkswagen ’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. Volkswagen claims that peak torque will be available at 1750 rpm. A plug-in hybrid model with 31 miles of electric-only range and a 600-mile overall range will also be available. Fuel economy is also said to improve by up to 20 percent thanks to new engines and a lighter chassis.

New technology includes the Active Info Display that replaces the instrument cluster with a configurable 12.3-inch screen that shows audio, navigation info and more. The Active Info Screen can display graphics in 2- or 3-D. A new head-up display (HUD) also shows important info including current speed, speed limit, navigation instructions, information, and warnings. The new Passat will also feature Volkswagen’s latest Modular Infotainment System with Car-Net remote app for smartphone integration, an updated 360-degree Area View Function for better around car visibility, and the latest Park Assist that can park the car forward into perpendicular spots. Trailer Assist makes backing up with a trailer easier.
