Now that the 2016 BMW 7 Series has been revealed, the high-performance BMW Alpina B7 has been spied testing at the BMW M test center at the Nürburgring. Although the German automaker hasn’t offered an M variant of the 7 Series, the Alpina B7 is the closest thing to a full-size M car BMW aficionados can buy.

While the last-generation BMW 760Li was powered by a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V-12 making 535 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque, the sportier Alpina B7 was powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 rated 540-hp and 538 lb-ft. We expect the new Alpina B7 to again feature a twin-turbo V-8, this time turned up to around 600 hp.

In addition to more power, the BMW Alpina B7 also features subtle aerodynamic updates including front and rear spoilers and Alpina-specific wheels. The B7 is also expected to get subtle interior updates as well.

So far, BMW has revealed three variants of the 7 Series sedan, including the new 740e xDrive plug-in hybrid based around a 2.0-liter gas engine mated to an electric drive unit integrated into the eight-speed automatic. The other two variants include the 740i with a 320-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter I-6 and the 750i xDrive with a 445-hp twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8. An eight-speed automatic backs both engines. BMW has yet to announce a V-12 variant.
