As more details of the compact Jaguar XE sedan become available, the second-generation midsize Jaguar XF sedan has been caught again -- this time testing at the Nürburgring.

Few details can be made out through the heavy camouflage, but a revised version of the rectangular grille with rounded corners appears to carry over. The roofline also appears more raked than on the current model. A wagon body style is rumored for Europe.

We know the second-generation Jaguar XF sedan will ride on the XE sedan’s new scalable platform dubbed (iQ[Al]). While the new model’s dimensions aren’t expected to change drastically, the new lightweight chassis should help it shed pounds compared to the current model. The new architecture is also expected to underpin upcoming Jaguar models including the production version of the C-X17 crossover concept.

Like the smaller XE, the base engine in the new XF will be a version of Jaguar’s new turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 Ingenium engine family. A supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 and supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 are also expected to remain on the roster. Rear-drive and all-wheel-drive variants will also be available. Euro-spec models will also get a turbodiesel variant, while a plug-in hybrid could arrive later.
