"We'll leave that to you to speculate," one Nissan official told Motor Trend about the connection between SSC and Maxima.

Regardless of what it's eventually called and what it may replace, Nissan confirmed the SSC (which stands for Sport Sedan Concept) is intended for production. Beyond that, Nissan said very little about the car, other than to suggest it also previews future Nissan design language.

Nissan has divulged no powertrain details as of yet. The concept's build quality and level of finish suggest it is fairly close to production-intent. Turn the styling down a few notches, add real door handles, door mirrors and lights and you've for your production car.

The Maxima may have placed third in a comparison against the Azera and Avalon, but judging by the SSC, we're looking forward to discovering what the next-generation Maxima will have to offer.
