Nissan IDx Concepts Look Even Better in the Sun

Two of the most popular concepts at the Detroit auto show are making the rounds in Southern California, and their first stop is none other than Motor Trend headquarters. The Nissan IDx Freeflow and IDx Nismo concepts were transported to Sunny SoCal straight from the Detroit show, which officially ended this past Sunday. As many editors professed during the show, we fell in love with both cars the moment they took the stage for their North American debut -- and we love them even more seeing them out in the daylight.

Research

The harsh auto show floor lighting doesn't do the cars justice, and in the California sun the colors and subtle details really pop. The denim-upholstered interior of the IDx Freeflow makes a unique statement, while the red racing buckets and red anodized accents set off the cabin in the IDx Nismo. As the cars were being unloaded, we had a chance to chat with Nissan representatives about powertrains. They couldn't say specifically what was under the hood currently, but did note that the cars were pieced together using various odds and ends in the Nissan parts bin. As for a future production model, the turbocharged 1.6-liter I-4 from the Juke was thrown around a few times. But the beauty of a concept car, according to the reps, is that we can let our imaginations run wild.

If you happen to live in Southern California, and want to see the two concepts in person, you can check them out this weekend as they tour the area. Tomorrow, the cars will be on the corner of Abbot Kinney and Palms in Venice from 4:00-10:00 pm, and on Saturday, February 1, the IDx duo will join the parade of rare sheetmetal that is Cars & Coffee in Irvine. The concepts will be there from 6:00-8:30 am, and from there head straight to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Miracle Mile, where they'll be displayed from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. On hand at the Petersen will be Pete Brock, of Brock Racing Enterprises (BRE) fame, who will be interviewed at 11:00 am. The final stop on the tour is Supercar Sunday in Woodland Hills, where you can catch the two concepts from 7:00-10:00 am. MotorTrend Image© Provided by MotorTrend MotorTrend Image

If you want to see these cars built, we recommend showing up to one of the gatherings, as Nissan needs to know there's sufficient interest before green-lighting these modern Datsun 510 tributes. Nissan IDx Concepts Motor Trend HQ© Provided by MotorTrend Nissan IDx Concepts Motor Trend HQ
