The 2016 Nissan Maxima has only been on the market for a short time, but the automaker has issued a stop-sale on the new sedan after it discovered a quality issue, Automotive News reports.

The 2016 Maxima reached showroom floors earlier last month, which means the number of affected vehicles should be relatively small. It’s unknown how many sedans are involved, or what issue caused Nissan to issue the stop-sale. Nissan in a statement said it's "committed to a high level of customer service and satisfaction."

"This commitment requires Nissan to periodically place certain specific vehicles on temporary Quality Assurance Hold to assure that these vehicles, as delivered to our customers, meet our exacting standards," the statement continues.

The automaker has reportedly targeted a batch of vehicles based on their vehicle identification numbers. Maxima sedans not involved in the stop-sale are still for sale, which suggests that the quality issue could be relatively minor and doesn’t involve any significant safety or powertrain systems. Meanwhile, the problem has not affected production of the vehicle.

Since the 2016 Maxima went on sale last month, Nissan has sold 4,037 units, up 14 percent from the same time a year ago. Power comes from a 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 300 hp and is mated to a continuously variable transmission. Available in five trim levels, the Maxima can be had with a long list of amenities including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, two-tone leather, and a driver attention alert system.
