Those of us born during the Carter administration or before likely remember Nissan's heyday in endurance racing in the late 1980s and early 1990s when the brand dominated in the IMSA series. Nissan is hoping to revive its former motorsports glory with its re-entry into the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship series, in partnership with Muscle Milk Pickett Racing.

Nissan's participation in the series ties in its NISMO Global Driver Exchange, in which drivers from the various series Nissan is involved with worldwide get a chance to compete in different racing series. The 2014 USCC campaign will be anchored by Muscle Milk Pickett Racing's Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf. Luhr won the 2011 GT1 World Championship in a Nissan GT-R. Alex Brundle, son of Martin Brundle that won the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 1988, will compete in the 2014 Rolex 24. Alex is a regular competitor in the Nissan P2 World Endurance Championship.

In addition to the Rolex 24, the series will include the 12 Hours of Sebring and the Petit LeMans. The Nissan-powered ORECA 03 will hit the track this weekend at the "Roar before the Rolex 24" a pre-season shakedown before the Rolex 24. The official debut of the series and car will be at the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship in Daytona on January 25-26, 2014.
