Nissan Teases New Truck on Instagram, Possibly Frontier

Nissan is teasing a thinly veiled image of a new model on its Instagram page. The vehicle’s silhouette appears to be an updated or redesigned pickup. Considering General Motors is about to release the all-new midsize Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon twins, the model in question is most likely the next-generation Nissan Frontier.

Earlier this year at the 2014 Chicago auto show, the automaker showed the Nissan Frontier Diesel Runner Powered by Cummins concept, which featured a 2.8-liter Cummins turbodiesel four-cylinder mated to an eight-speed automatic. The concept was based on the current Frontier Desert Runner 4x2 model.

At the time, the turbodiesel was said to produce “nearly 200 hp and more than 350 lb-ft of torque.” Those numbers are competitive to the Canyon/Colorado’s 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel I-4’s preliminary estimates of 195 hp and 365 lb-ft. Nissan also claims the Cummins powerplant and eight-speed combo would return 35 percent better fuel economy than a rear-drive 2014 Frontier’s V-6 without giving up its payload and towing ratings.

From the image, we can also see the automaker’s current three-section grille with large Nissan emblem and new L-shaped LED running lights that cover the top and inside edge of the headlights. The vehicle also appears to have a chiseled hood and roof rails.
