Nissan Tempts Deadmau5 With Nyan Cat GT-R to Replace Ferrari

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know what the Nyan Cat is. The animated meme has become a pop culture icon, but even still, Ferrari seems to hate it. We can only assume that since the automaker sent Deadmau5 a cease and desist letter demanding he get rid of the Nyan Cat wrap on his Ferrari 458 Italia. But before the famous DJ could even begin to miss the sky blue 458, Nissan came to the rescue.

The Japanese automaker sent a tweet to Deadmau5, saying it heard about what happened to his car, which he had nicknamed the "Purrari." Fortunately for him though, Nissan revealed it had a replacement ready for him "right meow," tweeting a picture of a Nyan Cat-wrapped GT-R with the Pop-Tart rainbow cat streaking across Godzilla's side panels. Judging by his tweets, the DJ seemed intrigued by the idea of owning his very own GT-R, and why wouldn't he be? Although it costs just a fraction of the Ferrari 458's MSRP, the GT-R has no problem keeping up with the prancing horse, as we've found in MT testing.

And for perhaps three minutes the GT-R and I were able to hang with Bell and his 458. Did I give up a car length or three? Sure. But I never lost sight of the yellow Ferrari. And that's the entire point of the Nissan GT-R: Someone like me, a very rank amateur, was able to keep up with a Le Mans-winning GT2 champion in an all-singing, all-dancing, mid-engine Ferrari," senior features editor Jonny Lieberman said of the GT-R in our 2011 Best Driver's Car Competition.

That same competition featured the very first World's Greatest Drag Race, in which the GT-R pulled ahead of the 458 and other high-priced supercars including the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Lexus LFA, Audi R8 GT, and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

With this type of performance waiting for Deadmau5, the Purrari might soon be a distant blue spec in his rearview mirror. Unfortunately though, a Nissan rep confirmed to us that the images are Photoshopped and that there's no real Nyan Cat-wrapped GT-R yet. But if Deadmau5 decides to take Nissan up on its offer, who knows?
