HSV (Holden Special Vehicles), the official tuner of Holden vehicles, is building a limited-edition version of the Maloo utility (or ute). Just 250 HSV GTS Maloo utes will be built, and of course none of them are coming to the U.S.

Research

Power for the HSV GTS Maloo will come from the Camaro ZL1 ’s supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V-8 tuned to 577 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque. The high-performance engine is backed by a Tremec T6060 six-speed manual transmission or an available 6L90E six-speed automatic. Both transmissions feature an external oil cooler, and the manual is fitted with a twin plate clutch.

Power is put to the ground with help from a torque vectoring system that uses the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system to apply braking to the inside rear wheel and transfer torque to the outside rear wheel to reduce understeer. The HSV GTS Maloo ’s speed is reined in by a set of lightweight AP radical forged six-piston calipers clamping on two-piece rotors measuring 15.4 inches up front and 14.6 inches outback.

“We have been working on this project for a couple of years now,” said HSV Managing Director Tim Jackson in a release. “There are a number of unique elements required to integrate the LSA into the Maloo platform, and significant time in getting all the safety and performance technologies to operate effectively.”

Inside, the HSV GTS Maloo features HSV performance seats in Onyx leather or available Red Hot leather. Also included is the HSV Driver Preference Dial with Touring, Sport, and Performance settings. The dial adjusts the dynamics of the ESC, Traction Control, Launch Control (manual), Torque Vectoring, Electric Power Steering, and electric Bi-Modal Exhaust systems. Other interior features include a Head-up Display, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Rain Sensing Wipers. An Enhanced Driver Interface (EDI) system displays performance data.

The high-performance brakes peek out from behind a set of lightweight 20-inch Blade forged alloy wheels with a Dark Stainless finish. Around back, shadow-chrome quad exhaust tips, a new license plate surround, and LSA and GTS badging complete the look.

HSV will introduce two new colors for the GTS Maloo: Some Like it Hot (rich bronze/red) and Jungle Green (iridescent olive green). Production is limited to just 250 units with 240 staying in Australia and 10 examples heading to New Zealand. Production will begin in November, and each car will include a special number build plate. Like other rear-drive Holden models, production of the Maloo utility will end in 2017 when GM quits building vehicles in Australia.
