Cadillac has slowly been revealing information about the all-new range-topping future model it has planned, announcing earlier this month that the new flagship would start production in late 2015. That future model is no longer nameless, as the automaker announced it'll be badged as the CT6.

The new CT6 will slot above the XTS and expand the luxury brand's lineup. The rear-drive sedan will be based on a new vehicle architecture and be constructed from lightweight materials that will help increase mileage, and also enhance driving dynamics and safety. Cadillac engineers used knowledge gained from the development of the ATS and CTS to get the new vehicle architecture just right. With that, Cadillac says the CT6 will be the lightest and most agile car in its class, which currently includes the Audi A8, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and BMW 7 Series. Since those large luxury sedans offer a slew of high-tech features and creature comforts, the CT6 will, too. Earlier this month, GM CEO Mary Barra revealed the first vehicle to feature semi-autonomous technology would be an all-new 2017 Cadillac. Barra said the mystery vehicle would offer GM’s automated driving technology called Super Cruise, which allows for hands-free driving at higher speeds and in stop-and-go traffic. The CEO also said the then-nameless car would enter a segment the company currently doesn't compete in, which makes us think this 2017 Cadillac model is the CT6. As for exterior styling, we expect it to look something like the Elmiraj concept that debuted at the 2013 Pebble Beach show. System.Xml.XmlElement© Provided by MotorTrend System.Xml.XmlElement

We've known for some time now that Cadillac was working on a flagship sedan, which was rumored to be called the LTS. Cadillac has already finished retooling its factory to make way for the CT6, which will be built alongside the ELR at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant in Michigan.

The new flagship will reportedly make its first appearance in the first half of next year.
