We've been hearing about a rumored Audi S1 for years, and now the German automaker has finally confirmed them with the reveal of the new 2015 S1 Quattro. The hot hatch pays homage to the legendary Audi Sport quattro S1 of the 1980s, and based off what we know so far, we're positive the hopped-up hatch will make a nice addition to the Euro-market A1 hatch lineup.

Research

Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 engine that puts out 231 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, Audi says the hatch can rocket from 0-62 mph in 5.8 seconds. The Sportback model, on the other hand, will get there a tad slower at 5.9 seconds. Top speed is limited to 155 mph, and although Audi doesn't say which transmissions it'll use, we expect it to come with a standard six-speed manual. Since it's been blessed with the S treatment, the hatch will benefit from the standard Quattro all-wheel drive system. There have also been a number of improvements over the garden-variety A1. Audi says the suspension has been extensively reworked, as has the electromechanical power steering. New pivot bearings on the front axle improve performance, while the compound-link rear suspension was switched out for a four-link design for a sportier and firmer ride. The S1 has been fitted with larger brake discs, and red brake calipers with the S1 logo are optional. Standard are 17-inch wheels, though 18-inch alloys are optional. Angular xenon headlights light the way, while newly designed LED rear lights now have a black panel stretching across the rear. Unique bumpers, side sills and exhaust system make it look aggressive, and an optional Quattro exterior styling package adds features such as a roof spoiler, making it look even meaner.

Inside, the cabin is dominated by the typical gray and black S-tones. Sport seats with integrated headrests come standard. Other options include smart key, navigation with the fold-out display, and Bose surround sound system. Pricing is set at 29,950 euros for the regular S1 and 30,800 euros for the S1 Sportback. However, don't get your hopes up, since the S1 isn't likely to make an appearance in the U.S. anytime soon.
