Ever since Volvo acquired Polestar, we knew changes were coming to the performance company's racing division. Although not a part of Volvo's purchase, and still independently owned by Christian Dahl, Polestar Racing will now be known as Cyan Racing.

The new name represents the Cyan blue color seen throughout the Polestar lineup. Cyan Racing will make its next showing at the penultimate round of the 2015 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship in Stockholm, Sweden, beginning September 11.

Since 1996, the team formerly known as Polestar Racing has been tasked with directing Volvo's motorsport program, participating in the STCC, WTCC, and V8 Supercars Championship races. Over the years, it has claimed 14 titles, over 100 race victories, and more than 220 podium finishes.

Just a few years ago in 2009, Polestar expanded beyond the track to offer high-performance variants of Volvo street cars. That division, which keeps the Polestar name, was sold to Volvo earlier this summer. The buyout, as well as the new Cyan name, helps to differentiate Polestar's street division from its racing heritage. volvo-s60-polestar-front-three-quarter© Provided by MotorTrend volvo-s60-polestar-front-three-quarter

“It has been an amazing journey developing the first performance foundation of Polestar," said Dahl, who is not only CEO of Cyan Racing but is also a former race car driver. "We will continue a close relationship with our efforts now focused 100 per cent on motorsport and we have an exciting future ahead of us together."

Polestar says more details on Cyan Racing will be announced at a later date.
