The follow-up to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is getting closer and closer to production, if this latest batch of spyshots is to be believed. The SLS follow-up is designed to compete head to head with the Porsche 911, and will either be called the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT or the SLC, depending on who you ask.

These new Mercedes-Benz AMG GT spyshots don't reveal many new details about the new Mercedes sports car. Like the SLS AMG it's replacing, the AMG GT will sport a traditional front-engine, rear-drive powertrain layout. The AMG GT's styling looks to be an evolution of the SLS', with a long, low nose, and a rear-set cabin. Unlike the SLS, the AMG GT will likely have a more traditional coupe roofline, and it'll unfortunately forgo gullwing doors in favor of traditional doors. © Provided by MotorTrend

The Mercedes AMG GT will likely have a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 serving as the base engine, with up to 400 hp on tap. There will likely be a 600-hp AMG GT Black Series model, as well as a model that splits the difference between the two.

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT will likely be unveiled late this year as a 2015 model. A convertible version will likely follow the coupe after a model year or two.
