Ram Patents Adjustable Loading Ramp System for Trucks

Ram was recently granted a patent for an "adjustable loading ramp system for a vehicle." According to these illustrations, two ramps slide out when needed to move items into the truck, and then slot back into the bed floor channels for easy storage.

Users would have plenty of flexibility when it comes to loading items such as motorcycles and off-road recreational vehicles with this feature, all without having to worry about stowing standalone ramps. The distance between the two integrated ramps can be adjusted thanks to a movable perpendicular track. The ramps lock into place for security.

The patent was granted to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles on June 30 and was apparently filed back in March 2014. As listed on official documents, the inventors were Deyan Ninov, Joseph Dehner, and Gregory Howell of Michigan.

It's still up to Ram to decide if it will implement the new invention in any of its products. The automaker could end up just holding onto the idea due to practical or financial reasons.

Either way, it's clear Ram is looking into improving the functionality of its truck beds. Last year, Ram patented a multi-function tailgate capable of opening at least six different ways. Even if the new loading ramps don't make it into a production vehicle anytime soon, we still like the idea.
